John Wesley Harding recording session 1, Nashville TN - 17.oct.1967, album version

[Oh, help me/Please help me(1)] in my weakness
I heard the drifter say
As they carried him from the [courtroom/courthouse(1)]
An' were taking him away
My trip hasn't been a pleasant one
An' my time it isn't long
An' i still do not know
[What it was that i've done wrong
/What it is that i have done wrong(1)]

[Well/Oh(1)] the judge he cast his robe aside
A tear came to his eye
[You'd fail/You would fail(1)] to understand, he said
Why you must even try?
Outside the crowd was stirring
You could hear it from the door
Inside the judge was stepping down
While the jury cried for more.

Oh stop that cursed jury,q
Cried the attendant and the nurse
The trial was bad enough
But this is ten times worse.
[And(1)] Just then a bolt of lightning
Struck the courthouse out of shape
An' while everybody [knelt/kneeled(1)] to pray
The drifter did escape.
