HIGHWAY 61 REVISITED
THE BEST OF BOB DYLAN Vol. 2
CAN YOU PLEASE CRAWL OUT YOUR WINDOW (Vinyl EP)
HIGHWAY 61 REVISTED AGAIN (T-174)

Highway 61 Revisited session 5, Columbia Studio A - 2.aug.1965, take 9, album version

Oh, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe said, "Man you must be puttin' me on!"
God said, "No", Abe said "What?"
God said, "You can do what you want Abe but
The next time you see me comin' you better run"
Well, Abe said "Where do you want this killin' done?"
God said, "Out on highway 61."

Well, Georgia Sam he had a bloody nose
Welfare department they wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor Howard, "Where can i go?"
Howard said, "There's only one place i know"
Sam said, "Tell me quick man, i've got to run"
Ol' Howard just pointed with his gun
An' said, "That way down on highway 61."

Well, Mack the finger said to Louie the king
"I got forty red white an' blue shoestrings
An' a thousand telephones that don't ring
Do you know where i can get rid of these things"
An' Louie the king said, "Let me think for a minute son"
An' he said, "Yes, i think it can be very done
Just take everything down to highway 61."

Now the fifth daughter on the twelfth night
Told the first father that things weren't right
"My complexion", she said, "is much too white"
He said, "Come here an' step into the light"
He said, "Hum, you're right, let me tell the second mother this has been done"
But the second mother was with the seventh son
An' they were both out on highway 61.

Now the rovin' gambler he was very bored
Tryin to create a next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
He said, "I never engaged in this kind of thing before
But yes, i think i can very easily done
We'll just put some bleachers out in the sun
An' have it on highway 61."

Three slightly different lyrics

Well, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe said, "Man you must be puttin' me on!"
God said, "No", Abe said "What?"
God said, "You can do what you want Abe but
The next time you see me comin' you better run."
Well [| he said] all right, "Where you want this killin' done?"
God said, "Out on highway 61."

[Oh | Well], Georgia Sam he had a bloody nose
The welfare department wouldn't give him no clothes
He asked poor Howard, "Where can i go?"
Howard said, "There's only one place i know"
Sam said, "Tell me quick man, i got to run"
Oh poor Howard just pointed with his gun / He pointed out with his gun
He said, "That way down on highway 61." / Out to Highway 61

Well, Mack the finger said to Louie the king
"I got a thousand red white 'n' blue shoestrings
An' a [bunch of | hundred] telephones that don't [seem |] to ring
[I simply got to | Do you know where i can] get rid of these things"
[| An'] Louie the king said, "Let me think for a [second | minute], son"
He said, "Yes, i think it can be [| very] easily done
Just take everything down to highway 61."

[Now | Well], the fifth daughter on the twelfth night
Told the first father that things weren't right
"My complexion", she says, "is much too white"
He says, "Come here an' step into this light"
An' he says, "Hum [yes |], you're right, let me tell the second mother this has been done"
But the second mother was with the seventh son
An' [they |] were both out on highway 61.

5Oh | Now] the rovin' gambler was very bored
Tryin' to arrange the next world war
He found a promoter who nearly fell off the floor
He said, "I never engaged in this kind of thing before
But [i see yes, how | yes, i think] it can very easily done
We'll just set some bleachers out in the sun
[An' |] have it on highway 61."
